Can you provide some scenarios regarding eligible professional participation in the 2016 Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) in regards to the Group Practice Reporting Option (GPRO)?

First, EPs should determine if they bill under more than one group practice Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) and if one or more of these groups participates in PQRS.

Next, EPs need to determine if the TIN to whom they have reassigned their billing rights is participating via the GPRO. If this TIN is a registered GPRO participant, then the EP may also be able to participate individually in PQRS using that TIN/National Provider Identifier (NPI). If the same group practice TIN is NOT participating via GPRO, the EP may participate via other PQRS mechanisms as an individual EP using his/her own TIN/NPI.

If the EP practices for two different TINs (for example, TIN 1 participates as a GPRO and TIN 2 does not), then the EP could participate individually using his/her individual TIN/NPI (TIN 2). The EP may also belong to two or more different group practices (two different TINs, both participating via GPRO) as long as he/she has reassigned billing rights to both TINs.
